STORYTELLERS WE LOVE
--- VI ---
THE INDUSTRIOUS MILLENNIPRENEUR : Hans Kenner Fernandez
Hans Kenner Fernandez (@kennerfernandez), founder of many well-received establishments such as Gaming Library, Dyce and Dyne, Urban Traveller & Co., Alter Ego and Spectre Manila. We got the privilege to interview Hans, whom we believe truly embraces the duality of our Jekyll Hyde bags.

1. Hi Hans, can you tell us a short story about yourself?
My primary passion is into board games. My family and I used to have board game nights at our home and I grew up loving the hobby.
Aside from this I love exploring, understanding different cultures and meeting new people in order to forge relationships. I’m always in the mood for constantly opening my mind and learning new things.
2. Can you tell us the story behind the many well-received establishments you have built? How did it all begin and how did you get to where you are today?
My mum has always taught me to earn what I want. I wanted to live doing what I love so I decided to turn my passion into businesses.
Gaming Library came from my love of board games. I wanted people to experience the kind of bond and learning experience you can get from social interaction by playing games with others.
Urban Traveller & Co. was born out of my experience that today’s evolving lifestyle is a challenge that must be met by the things we carry. I want to help people move.
Alter Ego is a culmination of my own identity. I don’t like the fact that people usually put things into a box. Why can’t an executive also be a fun geeky person as well? I can be Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night ☺
Spectre is my dream. I want a place that I can go to experience everything I need to be ready. Suits, Styling, Shoes, Accessories and Gear. It’s also my ideal place to reflect, think and work while having a good glass of scotch. I guess you can say that it features the finer things in life.
3. What does storytelling mean to you?
A story is a currency. It is the oldest method to establish relationships and create connections between people. Stories are what connect people across culture and time.
4. What is your favourite form of storytelling and why? What influenced it and has it influenced you?
I like speeches, especially Tedx talks, and reading non-fiction books. I try to learn from the experiences of others as much as I can as I know my own experiences are limited.

5. Do you have any words that you live by?
“First impression lasts”
My job requires me to meet different kinds of people, from founders of companies, prospective clients, business partners, media writers to bloggers from all over the world hence I strongly believed that the first impression dictates 80% of how things will move forward.
7. Do you have a favourite fictional story? Why is it your favourite and how has it influenced you?
I love James Bond books. Spectre is an inspiration from James Bond and the drinks at Spectre are even named after what James bond order in the book!
The Kensington Messenger is the perfect bag for the office as it is for bringing out your personality.
7. What is your favourite style and all-time favourite piece?
I do not really have a favourite style. My dressing depends a lot on my mood or on the occasion. As long as the weather permits, I would usually just go with a smart casual look so that I can transit from work to personal time.
8. Is there a particular style that defines you or makes you feel comfortable in?
Not in particular. My style mainly depends on two factors – weather and occasion. If there is an important occasion on a particular day, I’d make sure to dress up properly. On other days, I would prefer to wear what is comfortable (usually shorts and plain shirt) because the heat is here in the Philippines is unbearable!

10. Name one style you think Men should adopt?
I do not particularly have a style that I think men should adopt. Just make sure you are always overdressed and never under-dress.
11. Do you have any fashion pet peeves?
Never match black suit with brown shoes.
